Congressman Introduces Legislation to Tackle Windfall Profits

A Life Dedicated to Service and Impactful Storytelling

WEB Jamaal Anthony Bowman, born April 1, 1976, is an American politician and former educator who has served as the U.S. Representative for New York's 16th Congressional District since 2021.

Bowman's political career has been marked by a deep commitment to service, advocacy, and community empowerment. As a lifelong resident of the Bronx, he has firsthand experience of the challenges faced by working families and marginalized communities.

After earning a master's degree in counselor education from Mercy College and an Ed.D. from New York University, Bowman worked as a middle school principal and adjunct professor. However, his passion for social justice led him to pursue a career in politics.

In 2020, Bowman made history by defeating a 16-term incumbent in the Democratic primary for New York's 16th Congressional District. His victory was seen as a major upset and a testament to the growing power of progressive voices within the Democratic Party.

Since taking office, Bowman has continued to advocate tirelessly for his constituents. He has introduced legislation to address issues such as affordable housing, healthcare, education, and criminal justice reform.

In January 2023, Bowman joined forces with Senators Bernie Sanders and Ed Markey to introduce the Corporate Greed and Windfall Profits Tax Act, a landmark piece of legislation that seeks to curb the excessive profits businesses have been reaping amid record inflation.
