Upcoming Poll: Vice President Harris's Approval Rating
July 26, 2023
Harris's approval rating remains low, according to recent polls.
Vice President Kamala Harris's approval rating remains low, according to recent polls. A new poll from HarrisX, conducted July 13–15, found that Harris has a net approval rating of -15, with 39 percent approval and 54 percent disapproval. This is a slight decline from April, when Harris's net approval rating was -16, according to a poll from the Pew Research Center.
Harris's low approval ratings are in line with those of other recent vice presidents. According to a Gallup poll, the average approval rating for vice presidents since 1977 is 53 percent. However, Harris's approval ratings are lower than those of some of her recent predecessors. For example, Joe Biden had an average approval rating of 66 percent during his time as vice president, and Mike Pence had an average approval rating of 58 percent.
There are a number of factors that could be contributing to Harris's low approval ratings. Some Americans may be dissatisfied with the Biden administration's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, or other issues. Others may disapprove of Harris's own performance as vice president. It is also possible that Harris's low approval ratings are due to her political affiliation. As a Democrat, Harris is likely to be less popular with Republicans and independents.
Despite her low approval ratings, Harris remains a popular figure among Democrats. A recent poll from the Pew Research Center found that 77 percent of Democrats approve of Harris's job performance. Harris is also popular among young Americans, with a recent poll from the Harvard Institute of Politics finding that 63 percent of Americans under the age of 30 approve of her job performance.
It is unclear whether Harris's approval ratings will improve in the future. However, even if her ratings remain low, she is likely to remain a key figure in the Democratic Party.
