In investing, the trend is your friend until it isn't. That proved true for digital currencies last year.

Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency, surpassed $60,000 per unit in April 2021 after a meteoric rise that began in early 2020. But the value of the flagship crypto has since plummeted by more than 50%, trading below $30,000 as of July 2021. Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency, has followed a similar trajectory. Dogecoin, a joke cryptocurrency that surged in popularity earlier this year, has also dropped significantly in recent weeks.

The recent volatility in the cryptocurrency market has made it difficult for investors to know which digital asset to invest in. With thousands of different cryptocurrencies available, it can be overwhelming to try to identify the best one to put your money into.
